So you got the number and are ready to make that call. Now what? Will he or she say “deal” or “no deal?”
I have been on my fair share of first dates prior to finding my dreamboat, so I have a lil’ bit of expertise in this area…
This is an example of what NOT to do on a first phone call before the date (this is a true story):
Him: So, what do you like to do?
Me: Well, I love to loiter in museums, sneak into movies for free, and excessively sample fruit and veggies in supermarkets.
Him: So you wanna come over to my condo?
Needless to say, this date died an excruciatingly painful death before it could ever come into fruition…no deal!
Here are some general guidelines to how to close the deal:
- Do discuss your general interests. I know this seems basic, but, let’s keep it very real, during 99% of the first convo, you are really most concerned about how that person looks sans clothing. It’s mighty hard to concentrate on what your new person is saying while daydreaming about playing nekkid Twister with him/her.
- After you discover your date’s interests, actually PLAN a date that either involves those interests or explores those interests. If your date likes tennis, either play a match or make a reservation (yes I did say reservation—up your game peoples) in an exquisite setting where you can discuss tennis, art, video games, cars, whatever floats your boat….
- DO NOT discuss sex in this call. Ladies, my two older brothers put me on to game as soon as I started dating. Even though I was still very virginal in my late teens, they basically said: “If you talk about sex right off the bat, that lets them know that you are very willing to put out…quickly!” Okay, they didn’t say it as grammatically correct, but I do remember this clearly: do not become a hit-it-and-quit-it statistic! Fellas, most times, if a woman immediately brings up sex, she’s either a freak or desperate. Either way, I don’t think it matters much to most of you…
- Leave SOMETHING to the imagination. You don’t have to tell your entire life story in a matter of minutes. No matter how riveting or sensational the days of your lives are, no one wants to hear it right after they first meet you. Believe me, you might get stood up…and that is never a good look.
That should be enough to get you started. Have a great weekend and keep it strictly stylish!
