Happy Monday! Here are my finds of the week:
SEE: Imitation of Life (1934 and 1959 versions)
This classic movie reveals the complexities of the relationship between a white female entrepreneur and her black maid, both of whom are single parents to young daughters. Problem is, one daughter is wants so badly to be white (and can easily passes) that it ruins the relationship with the mother who would easily give her life to better her daughter’s life AND the other daughter wants her mother’s suitor. No matter what era, daughters can be a handful… The story includes a few more complexities and is worth watching. My mother introduced me to the wonderful classic and I love the high drama and high fashion…it’s a fashionista’s dream come true!

WATCH: The Game, CW, Sundays, 9pm EST
Betta catch this show before it gets cancelled—my fave lead in show, Girlfriends, was an unfortunate victim of the writer’s strike, according to the network, and I want you to catch this one before the ax comes down. “The Game” details the highs and lows of the teammates of a fictional professional football team. Featured are the stereotypical roles of the overpaid-undereducated-up-from-poverty-and-a-teenage-single-mother minority quarterback, a veteran player struggling to hold on to his glory days as the team’s star, and a naive rookie wide receiver with Jesus on his side but who struggles to deal with the temptations of the football world. This alone should make you watch it! Tune in, you will enjoy it..

Listen: Rissi Palmer
Ok, now we all know that not many Negroes (dare I say it!) fare well in country music, but this is one gal who break the mold. Originally offered a chance to for a pop music deal, she turned it down to show her lil’ bit of country to the world. Not bad for a girl from St. Louis, eh? Check out her music on her official site, www.rissipalmer.com
Have a strictly stylish day!

Hi Celena!
Thanks for posting the link to Rissi Palmer. I must admit, I have a thing for country music and I’m glad to see a black woman singing it! She’s great.

Both ‘Imitation of Life’ Dvds? I’m up ON IT!
LOVED those movies! Especially the Lana Turner version!
