Students to submit thoughtful prose for a $10,000 scholarship and a trip to Little Rock
to meet Dr. Maya Angelou
Alltel Wireless and world renowned poet Dr. Maya Angelou are celebrating Black History Month with the fifth annual “Words of Wisdom” essay contest. Students at participating Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) nationwide are encouraged to submit their responses on the following topic: “The foundation has been laid. And as a people, we’ve shown what we can do when called upon for change. How are you being called to build upon this new spirit of change?”
BTW, my words of wisdom about style:
- Stay true to your own style rather it be trendy, eclectic, upscale, rocker chic, etc….
- Don’t let others goad you into changing your style to suit theri needs. You will end up unhappy and unfulfilled.
- Find your own style by trying new styles. Don’t be afraid!
- If you are drawn to a certain color and others tell you how great it looks on you, it is probably “your” color.
- Once you find your style, stay true to yourself. You only are responsible for making you happy.
