Okay, I just posted a great fashion piece about First Lady Michelle Obama serving her community in style. So, it comes as a total shock and surprise to me that she is being called “ghetto” by anonymous Martha’s Vineyard residents in response to her impending August vacay with the Obama clan.

For those unaware, New York magazine published an article written by veteran Black journalist Touré in its latest issue titled “Black and White on Martha’s Vineyard.” In this ode to the affluent Black community in the popular New England vacation spot, Touré quotes an anonymous member of Black high society in Martha’s Vineyard saying, “[Michelle Obama] is basically a ghetto girl. She grew up in the same place Jennifer Hudson did. She hasn’t reached out to the social community of Washington.”

Unbelievable! It’s still a wonder why some people feel that those in the public spotlight need to be icons of the societal set.  Is it that shocking that Mrs. Obama would rather serve the public welfare than the society pages?
