Hi fab peoples!

I know that I have been incognito–but great things are in the works.  More to come later.

Anyways, I was invited to an exclusive beauty event hosted by Essence Magazine and Johnson&Johnson.  The event, titled “Whats Your Beauty Secret?,” was emceed by none other than Essence Beauty and Cover Director, Mikki Taylor, and had a panel of experts including celebrity makeup artist and Johnson’s Beauty Consultant Tia Dantzler (TD), esteemed dermatologist Dr. Cheryl Burgess (CB) , FLOTUS esthetician Joelle Lyons (JL), and celebrity makeup artist Derrick Rutledge (DR).

Here’s a bit of knowledge that they dropped in our ears:

ON KEEPING SKIN YOUTHFUL:

CB:  Use a Vitamin C preparation in the AM and use a retinol preparation in the PM. The skin is protected in the the AM with the vitamin C and repaired at night with the retinol.

TD:  Use great foundationa nd concealer.

JL: Drink water daily and eliminate regularly.  Have chemical peels performed by a licensed practitioner.

DR:  Use a good moisturizer with vitamin C and a good concealer.

AT HOME SECRETS FOR A LUMINOUS GLOW:

CB:  You don’t have to wear makeup every day.  Develop a regular good skin care regimen so you can look beautiful without make-up and fabulous with when wearing make-up.

TD:  Use highlighter lotion and creme blushes.  Use blotting paper to remove excess oil.  Make sure that you wash off your makeup every night. Use moisturizer during the day and night.  You can also use highligters, bronzers, and illuminators to get a bronzy glow–and cap off with bold lips.

DR:  Use at least 2 shades of make-up throughout the year.  One shade for fall/winter and another shade for summer.  Mix the shades for spring. Lok healthy without looking oily by using moisturizer combined with a good foundation to get a healthy glow.

JL:  Use masks at home to maintain good skin and create a youthful glow.

COMMON MISTAKES IN SKINCARE:

TD: Going to drugstore counters to purchase foundation.  At a department store make-up counter or in a specialty make-up store, you c an try on different shades of foundation.   If you should happen to get the wrong foundation at the drug store, take it back!

CB:  Department store make-up is the same quality as drugstore make-up.  The cost to manufacture the make-up is the same.  A product is not superior simply because it is in Neiman Marcus.

MULTI-TASKING BEAUTY PRODUCTS:

TD: Foundation can also be used for concealer.  Baby oil, especially Johnson’s, can be used for cuticles and make-up removal.  There are also make-up sticks  that can be used for cheeks, lips, and eyes.

JL:  Exfoliating and deep cleansers can sometimes also be used as masks.

CB:  Products for your face can be used all over your body, but body products shouldn’t be used on the face.

BEAUTY PRODUCTS THAT THE WHOLE FAMILY CAN USE:

The best products for used for the entire family are fragrance-free, dye-free, hypo-allergenic, and hypersensitivity free.

Great info, great food, great beauty, and a great time!

The next event was held this  past Saturday, March 27 in NYC.  Hope you had a chance to attend!
