Strictly Fab Entertaining: Throw a Summer Party!

Can you believe that half of the year is already over?  Wow….

Anyways, you are probably either planning a Fourth of July soiree…or attending one…or you may just hide out like I plan to do…

If you are planning on throwing a fab function, here are some tips for summer fun:

1.  Pick a simple theme–whether it be a holiday theme, birthday party, or just-for-fun event, pick a theme where your guests can have FOA..Fun-On-Arrival!  It can be a time-themed (40, 60s, 80s, anyone?), have a specific color scheme (white party),  or even a Margarita party, but don’t require your guests to wear elaborate costumes (unless it’s Halloween) or do anything extra special–it’s supposed to be relaxing…

2.  Create the mood with lighting and accessories:  I love tiki torches for outdoor parties–use them to light the path or create a party border.  If you’re not a tiki-torcher, use large vases (or Mason Jars) and use tea lights for a grand illumination.  You can also create a festive atmosphere with paper Chinese lanterns–they are inexpensive (you can find them at the Dollar Store!) and can be found in an array of colors.  You can also use decorative rugs on your grass

3.  Create a menu:  Figure out ahead of time what will be on the menu.  If you are using a grill, be sure to refresh your memory about grilling techniques and safety.  Have a few platters of hors d’oeuvres so your guests won’t be starving before the main dish is fully cooked.

4.  Have a signature drink/cocktail:  Create a special and unique drink for your guests. If you are not a drink connoisseur, hit up a local bar and ask a bartender to whip you up a few speciality drinks based on the season and your spirits preference.  Make your guests feel like it was made just for them!

5.   Take many, many photos:  In this social networking era, guests will love to see themselves in Twitpics or tagged on Facebook.   You can event print them out instantly and give them to your guests as a parting gift. You can get cheap frames fro your local Target, Dollar General, Walmart, etc.  What a way to remember a party!

I love those lanterns! How are they suspended? Do you know? Very neat idea, different from hanging from the ceiling.
